Room MB-46 Building 1 State Capitol Complex
Charleston, WV 25305
My name is Steven Allen Adams. In my day job I am Ogden Newspaper's state government reporter for West Virginia. My stories appear in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel, the Wheeling Intelligencer/News-Register, the Weirton Daily Times, The Inter-Mountain in Elkins, and The Journal in Martinsburg. My work also appears in the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram and other daily papers in the state, and I'm often asked to appear on statewide TV and radio news programs to talk about state politics. I have 15 years of experience as a print, online, radio, and TV reporter, editor, and producer. I've won multiple West Virginia Press Association and West Virginia Broadcaster's Association awards. I have have had my work cited in national publications and bestselling books. The State Journal named me a Generation Next: 40 Under 40 in 2012, and the Washington Post named me one of the top 50 best state-based political reporters in 2009. I'm a volunteer producer/DJ for WTSQ LP 88.1 FM, where I host ska and pop punk show Noise Brigade Saturdays at 1 p.m. I'm also a board member of the Lincoln Legacy Foundation, which puts on Camp Lincoln, a civics-focused summer camp in Webster County. Earl Ray Tomblin honored my volunteer work in 2016 with a proclamation. I'm also the former representative of the Public Service Commission on the Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority. I also spent nearly six years in government communications work. I served as a constituent outreach specialist and communications specialist for the West Virginia Senate from 2013 to 2017. I became an assistant communications director and press secretary to Secretary of State Mac Warner in January 2017 until returning to journalism in June 2018. I'm married to Jessica Wintz-Adams (LWV Class 2015) and we live in Charleston's Edgewood neighborhood with our cat Belle and dog Penny. I enjoy ska music, bass guitar, biking, camping, and reading.
